Grab a camera and use your creativity for a cause. If the judges think you’ve snapped the perfect shot, you win a number of prizes including the opportunity to exhibit and sell your work with printing and framing costs covered!
Regent Park Focus uses a variety of media practices to encourage youth to engage with their communities. The Spotlight Project is asking One Thousand Words participants to do the same.
Neighbourhoods are like people. Each one has its own unique character, sound, smell, taste, pace and feel. The Spotlight Project is challenging you to capture the many facets of your neighbourhood using only the visual medium of photography.
Think creatively. Think abstractly. Our judges will be looking for a powerful photo with a unique approach to the Challenge Statement.

Competition Terms & Conditions
The Spotlight Project reserves the right to limit entries if they are deemed inappropriate or offensive
Competition is open to anyone and everyone – not just Toronto.
To submit your photo to the One Thousand Words Competition, you must pay a minimum of $5 via our PayPal service online. Donations are subject to PayPal’s user fee (2.9% + $0.30). This fee will be deducted from your $5 payment. If you wish to participate in the Competition but do not wish to pay online, please contact info@thespotlightproject.ca.
Submissions will be posted on a daily basis.
10% of the total revenue generated through The Spotlight Project fundraisers, including One Thousand Words, goes towards The Spotlight Project. This funding allows us to continue our work helping charities like The Regent Park Focus Youth Media Arts Centre.
Net proceeds from the competition will be donated to the Regent Park Focus Youth Media Arts Centre.
The winner of the Competition has the opportunity to showcase and sell their work at The Mad Bean located at 519 Eglinton Avenue W. for the month of July 2011. Winner receives the printing and framing five (5) 16”x 20” photos generously donated by The Framing Depot and LePix. A small reception for the opening of the winner’s exhibit will be organized by The Spotlight Project however The Spotlight Project.
The Competition winner and runner-up are provided with the opportunity to have the winning photo and bio featured on www.thespotlightproject.ca. Photo and bio will remain posted for a minimum of two months after the One Thousand Words winners are announced.
By submitting your photo to the One Thousand Words Competition you agree to let The Spotlight Project use your image and name for marketing and promotional use.
